The Duomo and the frescoes

The medieval village of San Gimignano offers visitors many attractions and historical monuments, such as the town's Duomo, a cathedral dating back to the 12th century, where it is possible to admire Painter Ghirlandaio's frescoes in the chapel dedicated to Saint Fina. In the old town centre, you can also see the towers of San Gimignano, which were built in the golden age of the famous medieval Tuscan village. At the time, the most important families wanted those towers to defend the territory and the whole community. Originally, there were as many as 72 towers, but today there are far fewer. Depending on the sources, there should be 14 or 16 towers.
